NEKO CASE TO RELEASE NEW STUDIO ALBUM
FOX CONFESSOR BRINGS THE FLOOD
MARCH 7, 2006 ON ANTI
(ANTI-, Los Angeles, CA) Anti- Records is proud to announce the release of NEKO CASE’s new studio album Fox Confessor Brings The Flood on March 7, 2006.
Produced by NEKO CASE and Darryl Neudorf and engineered by Craig Schumacher, Fox Confessor Brings The Flood finds her imagistic lyrics and singular voice backed by a cadre of talented collaborators including longtime bandmates Jon Rauhouse and Tom V. Ray, as well as frequent musical foils The Sadies, Giant Sand leader Howe Gelb, vocalist Kelly Hogan, Calexico’s Joey Burns and John Convertino, and Canadian cohorts Brian Connelly and Paul Rigby. Rachel Flotard of Seattle punk-pop combo Visqueen also guests, as does legendary multi-instrumentalist Garth Hudson of The Band.
The new album captures NEKO CASE stretching out sonically, expanding her musical palette with shimmering harmonies, haunting atmospheres, and a deep, rich sound. Fox Confessor Brings The Flood also mixes a 60’s pop influence alongside her signature country noir, making this her most compelling and fully realized effort yet.
For CASE, the journey toward completing Fox Confessor Brings The Flood was a long but ultimately rewarding process. “I recorded the album intermittently over the past couple years. With each record, you think you’ve figured it out, but once you get into the studio, you realize there's always more to learn. But I feel like we managed to get all my ideas to tape.”
In her role as the album’s co-producer, CASE also faced a number of distinct challenges. "Being a good producer means you have to have a saint's patience, which does not occur in me naturally,” she says, laughing. “I had to generate some temporarily, and I think it worked out in the end. I feel really good about this album.”
Fox Confessor Brings The Flood is the studio follow-up to CASE’s much-lauded 2002 effort, Blacklisted, praised everywhere from Rolling Stone (“truly hellbent music”) to Pitchfork (“full of eloquent depth”) to Entertainment Weekly (“We love Neko Case”). CASE made her Anti- label debut with 2004’s concert set The Tigers Have Spoken, a brilliant, energetic collection of covers, oddities and new material that generated a similarly rapturous response from fans and critics alike.
CASE, who is currently on the road playing to sold-out crowds with power-pop outfit The New Pornographers, plans to support Fox Confessor Brings The Flood with U.S. and international touring, beginning in early 2006.
