PRESS RELEASE: THE RETURN OF CANNIBAL OX!
Just got a press release on Cannibal Ox earlier today. Definitely psyched to hear the upcoming album. Check the Prefix interview with Vast Aire last year.
PRESS RELEASE:
THE RETURN OF CANNIBAL OX!
Definitive Jux is proud to announce the
continuation of its relationship with the seminal and celebrated indie hip hop
group Cannibal Ox through 2006 and beyond with a multi-album worldwide deal.
Following two years spent on their various solo projects, Vast Aire and Vordul
Mega will reignite their collaborative fires with producer/mastermind El-P for
a follow up to their classic debut, The Cold Vein. With its
impressionist flows and other-worldly beats, 2001's The Cold Vein
solidified the group's status as one of hip-hop's most forward-thinking acts,
and effectively put Definitive Jux on the map in a huge way amongst fans,
critics and future generations of biters alike, becoming one of the most
celebrated and successful indie hip hop albums in recent memory.
The as-of-yet untitled LP is due for an '06 release and will be released in the
same quarter as El-P's follow up to his 2002 solo release, the highly acclaimed
Fantastic Damage. Scheduled guest producers for the Can Ox album as
of press time include the RZA and Pete Rock.
Cannibal Ox will be mounting a December '05 U.S. tour hitting 8 major markets.
"I'm happy to announce that Cannibal Ox is back on Jux. I'm incredibly
excited to follow up our last collaboration, and will be producing the new
record. When Vordul, Vast and I combine we bring out the best in each other
musically... I think this is going to be something hip hop fans have been
waiting for." - El-P
"Cannibal Ox are in the lab working on a new album. So far the album is going to be produced by El-P with guest production by Pete Rock and the RZA. We love the new music we are creating and look forward to releasing a great album next year in mid-November. Cannnibal Ox will be dropping a mixtape called "The Return of the Ox" which will feature live performances of classic songs from "The Cold Vein" LP and bonus material. Keep your ears to the street for more" - Vast Aire

it's cool to see they got rza and pete rock. i have high expectations for this but that often leads to big disappointment.

Why?
I was enjoying life without them.

the cold vein is one of the best albums to deseminate from any genre in the last ten years period.

Sin what the hell you talkin about? Thats the biggest load of bullshit Ive ever heard. El-P is the best producer in hip-hop-- FACT. Cold Vein's a masterpiece. This is the best news Ive heard in aaaaaagggggees, this albums gonna rock. And I second Warlock, Can O better get their asses over to England!

Just seen the good news, can't wait for this next album. Was so gutted when i thought they'd split and wouldn't be dropping another album, so this news is classic! Gonna have alot to prove, with the cold vein being one of my favourite albums of all time, but if they can even get close to the cold vein album, they've succeeded! Excellent news!

The Ox never left! What's wrong with yall. Get ready for the blow-up, cause its comin'. This is real hip hop, authentic to the core, it gets no iller. Reminds me of the old days, mixin in the attic and having neighborhood emcees droppin by, creating classics. That's what its all about.

El-P better bring the heat as usual, im lookin forward to see pete rock work with ox
cold vein is gnanna be a hard one to follow up in my book though

It'll be dope. El-P's only getting better (those of y'all who heard Hell's Winter, by Cage, can agree with that), and with Pete Rock, and the RZA (who, of course, produced Wu-Tang, the guys Can Ox are always getting compared to), it's bound to be great.
Truth, though, I'm just as excited about hearing El-P finally doing a follow-up of his own. 'Bout damn time!
