Short Reviews: Clap Your Hands Say Yeah at South Street Seaport / Boards of Canada Listening Party for The Campfire Headphase

Cimg0075<---Random people at the back or exiting the CYHSY show.

I finally got the CYHSY album last week making me the last person in Brooklyn to own it.  In any case, I figured seeing them for FREE would be cool at the Seaport even though I had only listened to three songs and was only lukewarm towards the band.  Anyways, I went to see Crap Your Pants No Thanks at the South Street Seaport around 8P.  As I arrived I could see the massive crowd and guitars.  Then I heard the singer say something along the lines of 'Thanks a lot guys. Have a good night!'  Basically, I saw about 5 seconds of them.  I give their show a 9.0 (Pitchfork scale) since they seemed courteous and the crowd wasn't too ugly.  Then half the crowd left as Devotchka got on.

Luckily, I ran into Prefix staffer Aaron Richter (he wrote up the CYHSY review at Prefix) and his friend Rosemary.  Then off we went to Shake Shack.  (Review of Shake Shack on next page.  9.6 on Pitchfork scale).

After the awesomeness that is Shake Shack, I was off to the Boards of Canada listening party for The Campfire Headphase.  I got their around 10:15P.  I even took a cab since I was bloated from Shake Shack and also running late.  In any case I stood in the middle of the room trying to listen to what I thought was BOC.  Not even sure if it was their album that was on.  So I might have heard one song from the album, but I don't even think I did.  It was loud since people were all yapping, schmoozing and doing all that stuff kids do when there's free liquor.  I basically missed hearing the album, but I'll assume it's good and give it a 9.2 (Pitchfork scale) because there were better looking people at this party then at Crap My Pants No Thanks.  Also, as I was discussing the greatness of Shake Shack to Megan of Quiet and Loud PR and her friend who manages Prefuse 73 (Prefix gave Mr. Herren album of the year in 2003), a woman overheard me and jumped into the Shake Shack conversation.  She loved the Shack even more than me I think.  I think we even high fived over it.

Now to the real review and the best part of my Wednesday night (Don't be lazy and click on the next page!)

I created some wack ass diet that consists of me not drinking alcohol and only eating grilled chicken and fruit.  I'm not even trying to lose weight cause I'm skinny to start with.  Don't hate.   But when Aaron Richter told me about this Shake Shack place I decided the grilled chicken diet for no reason could go on hiatus for an hour.  You could smell the delicious burgery aroma from across the street.  When I got there I saw a giant Hot Dog/Burger winnebago like stand with a big line.  There were also a ton of full tables of people shoving food down their throats.

I ordered this:

  • Double Shack Burger (Burger with chees, lettuce, tomato and Shack sauce)
  • Cheese Fries (One size only)
  • Large Vanilla Shake

It came out to about $12, but it was the awesome and completely worth it.  At the beginning of the meal I even thought about how I could schedule coming to the place everyday for the rest of the summer.  However, by the end my stomach was defeated and while I finished I think I ate too much.  Nevertheless, Shake Shack beat out my 5 seconds of CYHSY and my 1 song? of BOC.  I give the Shack a 9.6 (Pitchfork scale), I penalize it for reminding me of Shaq the oversized basketball monster and horrible rapper everytime I said "Shack" and also because there were tons of yuppy preppy folk.  I'm kinda preppy though.

I concur that the people (girls) at the BoC listening party were hot. In fact, I was so distracted I couldn't listen to the music much.

Man, is the rest of your blog as poorly written as this entry?

Yesno.
The Prefix staffers write well.
I don't write well.
Writing a review off of 5 seconds of a CYHSY show and a quarter of a song at listening party is not easy though.
