Coldplay Not So Secret Show at Beacon Theatre
Got an email last week from a publicist at Capitol asking if I'd want a +1 to a secret Coldplay show. I don't think it was a big secret considering it was at the Beacon Theatre, but I was very grateful for the offer and even though I'm not a big Coldplay fan (I think they're alright), I wasn't going to refuse the hook up. Thanks Capitol. Then yesterday came and I was told my +1 was a +0. Oh well. In any case, I took photos but they came out like crap. My seats were in the balcony. I took video using my Treo and that came out like crap too. I was depending on those to get up some decent material on the show. Sorry guys. Basically I can say that the event prior to Coldplay getting on stage was a giant brainwashing ploy by AOL. It hurt my head. They just kept plugging AOL's live music and repeating the same videos (although Bloc Party's Banquet was one of the vids).
In any case Coldplay did sound good and they did their thing although they said they were off. I sure didn't notice. The crowd seemed really into it and after the show people were buzzing. For me it was a good show, but I didn't leave their thinking how amazing Coldplay was either. Then again the only modern band I can think of that sells jillions of records that I would've rather seen is Radiohead...

On another note, I'd just like to point out that I'm not usually a big fan of rock acts recommended by big name rappers.
Jay-Z -> Coldplay (Not too bad)
Jay-Z -> Linkin Park (No thanks)
Kanye West -> John Mayer (No thanks, but he's got some talent)
Snoop-> Franz Ferdinand (He didn't know their name, but knew "Take Me Out". Close enough. Good choice Snoop)
