Bright Eyes on Leno (Video)(05.03.05)

The video is no longer up.

Bright_eyes_lenoBright Eyes performed on Leno last night with a full on red cowboy outfit and then performed "When the President Talks to God".  I'm surprised the show and NBC ok'd this song, but perhaps he pulled a last minute switcheroo.  In any case, he had some fans there judging by the hysterical cheers in the crowd.  I definitely give him a lot of credit for performing this song.  A statement song and gutsy song to perform.  Leno thanked him at the end and I think he actually says "Thanks Conor."  You can still download this song free from iTunes too.

Low Quality (This really is crappy quality)

By now you've probably seen the Bright Eyes video. It's been posted in the comments of my highly controversial post for a while. --- According to a commenter in my last M.I.A. post, "I also love M.I.A., but she was... [Read More]

I'm impressed that he got away with that one - pretty ballsy but awesome of him.

Where was Conor's 'insightful music' when Clinton was sodomizing an intern with a cigar and/or when Clinton did nothing to Bin Laden and his Al Queda thugs after they attacked the USSCole? There's nothing ballsy or awesome about playing such a disrespectful song when you're a young musician with nothing to lose. Controversy always makes more money, and this guy is following in Michael Moore's footsteps. I'm sure he'll be rich in no time if he's not already.

Finally, I'm sure 'Bright Eyes' believes every word in his song, but unfortunately he's not smart enough to realize he has nothing to offer other than the same regurgitated rants commonly heard from the Left.

Awesome, our first republican! Can we keep him daddy?

Posted by: bza | May 4, 2005 2:01:28 AM

Hey, there's nothing wrong with using cigars to sodomize young women as long as it's wanted. I'm sure a fair number of politicians have had affairs, anyway, only their mistresses have likely had more reliable best friends.

And yeah, Conor is saying the same crap as every other liberal, but it seems to take a shitload of people driving the same points home for anyone to give a damn and listen. Besides, there's no better time to be disrespectful than when you're a young musician with nothing to lose.

Thanks for filling the quota - we were starting to look a bit biased.

I never heard of Bright Eyes until I caught him on Leno. I was happy to see someone with balls to say whay Bush is about. I will never call him"president", he lost both times and he is an idiot puppet of his daddy and Dick"I like'm young" Cheney. ( he has been called a pedophile many times with lots of evidence and NEVER denied it)

Posted by: tom | May 4, 2005 4:56:07 PM

regardless of whether or not you like bright eyes, that was still a gutsy move to play that song.

I hate to admit it, but MKW is correct (and being correct doesn't necessarily make him a "Republican"). This is the same pabulum that I hear everytime I attend or pass by an anti-war "protest" (more like a bunch of tired worker drones who are "concerned" about Bush but don't have the nuts to actually DO anything BUT "protest"). Bright Eyes sounded like he had dropped a few Budweisers down that gullet of his before he came on. Just because a few people cheered for him doesn't mean it will change anything. The American people don't know what revolution is, and wouldn't do anything even if they DID know what it was. The American people are notoriously lazy when it comes to the idea of striking back against their masters.

BUUUT....please understand, MKW, what Bush is doing to innocent Iraqis and Americans IS still much more significant than what Clinton may have done to a blue dress. Oh, and BTW, "Al Queda" is a Mossad agency false front, and "Osama bin Laden" had nothing to do with the USS Cole. It was an attack that had Israel written ALL OVER IT.

Other than that, Bright Eyes' rant was nothing unique, and it won't do anything to wake up the American people, who appear to enjoy their extended narcolepsy. A bunch of people "driving home the point" will be completely lost on the single dumbest nation on earth, the ol' US of A.

Good god!! Where do I start??

What he did was neither ballsy nor insightful. It was an unpolished, premeditated cheap shot and a blatant attempt to boost record sales of someone the majority of people would never had heard of were it not for this PR tactic wrapped in the guise of being a 'rebel'.

Liberals like this kick and scream all the way up to election day. When that day comes most of them are too lazy to put down the joint and get off the couch in their mother's basement to actually go and vote. Then, they say things like "I will never call him president because he lost". Ummmmmm, when exactly did he lose? Becasue I am pretty sure he cleaned John Kerry's clock in the last election.

Anycrap, To say that the USS Cole was attacked by Israel shows the mentality and intelligence level of your typical garden-variety liberal. All conspiracy, no evidence and a bucket full of excuses to write off any REAL evidence that may present itself. By the way, Osama confessed to the cole bombing in one of his videos (but I suppose that was faked in the same studio where they faked the moon landing, right?)

To sum up, the only contributions kooky liberals like the ones above provide this great nation are that they show we can still adhere to the 1st amendment while the sane people who understand what is actually going down in the worlds can remain in power to protect your right to protest.

Things "kooky liberals" have given this country: the forty hour work week, unions, the civil rights bill, welfare, social security, medicare, medicaid, laws about working conditions, a woman's right to vote, a woman's right to her body, housing rights, mental health rights, soldiers rights, the ACLU, the NAACP, NOW, the Southern Poverty Law Center, defendants rights, voting rights, consumer rights, and immigrant rights.

I would also like to point out that studies have consistently shown that the more education you have, the more likely you are to be liberal, and I doubt the majority of graduate school alumnae are living in their parents' basement smoking weed all day.

This is the last time I'm responding to people like this. I know I won't change your mind, so just shut the fuck up and I'll do the same.

Posted by: bza | May 5, 2005 4:39:21 PM

hey benji - keep burying your head in the sand (or keep believing everything you're told by your daddy and the mainstream media) and before you know it, your power happy friends on capitol hill will have dismantled your first amendment rights too; right along with every other shameless act they're willing to commit for their own personal gain and with no regard for the things that truly make this nation "great".

i can also add that if you knew anything about conor oberst (bright eyes), you'd know that he's done a number of things throughout his career in direct conflict with increased record sales.

and finally, whether you think so or not, it takes a lot of balls to stand up in front of a national audience and openly criticize the president. try it sometime.

Don't yah love that after 5 years the Republicans are still blaming Clinton. Hmm why no blame on our genius of a president, Mr Bush?? Face it, Bush has been a DISASTER as president. 9/11 happened on his watch. Where are the WMD's?? Where is OSAMA???? TURA BURA??? yep, we let him slip away. He Paid the afhgan troops off and they let him slip away. Another military blunder, ummm yep. Americans are dieing in Iraq, mission accomplished?? Exit strategy?? Are we winning the hearts and minds of its citizens?? ummm noooo . Huge surplus to a huge deficit? on an on and on,,,,,,,,,,Gee do u think the mismanagement of OUR money is the cause of their new scheme for social security. the bullshit is finally catching up to the conservatives, the noose around their necks is tighening, the media can only do so much to cover up the lies and deceit. Americans are finally taking notice and its about time.

"Becasue I am pretty sure he cleaned John Kerry's clock in the last election."

Oh, really? Actually, the GOP once again illegally acted to defraud voters, this time in the states of Ohio and Florida. There was no clock cleaning here. Get your facts straight. That's right. Right-wing Republicans don't believe in facts. They make-up facts to support their agenda.

Holy Shit...
I personally like the comments of 1/2Man1/2Amazing myself... Just the fact that you say you are 1/2 Man AND 1/2 Amazing shows us all exactly how much you love yourself and your ideals. Loosen up a bit and respect a person for his views and having enough discipline to say what he really thinks on National television, something I'm sure a man like you could never do-successfully, that is. Get a clue.

Also, how can anyone compare getting a blowjob from a secretary to WAR?! Forget it, think about what you are saying before you say it.

Oh, and 1/2Man1/2Amazing, I am a fan of smoking pot, but I still voted for the presidential elections and even for the school board this past week...So once again, GET A CLUE!

I apologize, wasn't this blog about Bright Eyes anyways?!?!

Posted by: Jackson | May 7, 2005 1:44:39 AM

I am AMAZED at some of the stereotypical crap that is flung around on this board like poo in a monkey cage.

You know what, it doesn't take that much balls to criticize the president on TV, ESPECIALLY if you are a musician looking for a big payday like this hack was. I am not even ripping the words, he can't sing, and his lyrical ability was FAR short of talented. That guy Bo Bice on American Idol had 50 x more talent.

As far as the other clap trap - The Cole was not the israelis. Whoever said that needs a 2 "No Pot Session" timeout to get back with reality. About the guy that listed the grad school reference and everything that liberals have given this country...........like most things that the left has given, it started out as a great idea and became bastardized and twisted. Unions needed to happen, and now they are the biggest special interest group in the nation and the reason why half the labor we have has gone overseas....because it costs 25 bucks an hour to hire a welder. The ACLU was the same thing....needed to happen and now they are starting to reselble PETA more than a bastion of justice and liberty.

The bottom line is, until the folks on the left stop whining, bitching, moaning, complaining, and do something to take part in the process we'll always be the men behind the scenes running the country. Sucks to swallow that reality pill.....but the guys that all went to grad schools for engineering, law, medicine, business......most of them now a days are conservative. Gonna have to wake up from that haze the hard way to see it I guess.
